Twinkle, Twinkle Little Firefly

A Ragtag Daily Word Prompt

Fireflies at Night

Dear M,

I stood at the end of the driveway. A thousand fireflies like tiny twinkling stars dancing in the darkness. The dark silhouette of the forest a backdrop for these magical fairy lights. I was transfixed.

Afraid to break the spell, I basked in the glow of their beauty. Oh, how I wished I had wings! To fly away into the darkness, with nothing more than these delicate creatures to light my way. To flee the hold you had on me.

You were unaware that I would soon leave you. In the presence of such enchantment I found the resolve to make this my last summer with you.

After what felt like a long time I reluctantly turned to walk back to the house. When I reached the door I took one last look and said goodbye to the fireflies and their magical, little twinkle lights.

  1. Fireflies….I loved them in the summer when I was younger. Sadly, I no longer see them.
