Based on the fact that Democrat Christians were overwhelmingly outnumbered by Republican Christians, it looks like the answer is plain.
Both sides prayed, hoped, and counted on a miracle for their party to win. Democrats feel their prayers were answered and Republicans are still waiting for a miracle. Regardless of party, everyone thinks God is on their side.
It’s been a tough finale to four years of chaos. It’s intense, and emotions are running high. It feels like it should be over, yet we still hold our breath waiting to see what comes next. Violence? Civil War? All we can do is wait and watch.
I ask if God is a democrat, tongue in cheek, because God does not belong to a political party. He is perfect love and he belongs to all of us. In his perfect love he lets us make our own decisions without interference. He gave us free and with that He stepped back and let us make our own decisions. Free will is a double edged sword. We are free to make our own choices, but the result is that we must deal with the consequences of our choices.
From a young age we know that our experiences can cause pain. We fall down, it hurts, we learn to be more careful. Our parents watch us knowing that they can’t protect us from every hurt. They know that pain is a part of learning and with learning comes growth. This is true physically, emotionally, spiritually.
If parents in their imperfection understand this, then how much greater does our heavenly Father in his perfection understand what we need? The depths of His love for us is unfathomable by our limited understand.
Sometimes, we pray for answers as if God is our personal genie. We righteously feel that our prayers will be answered. When they aren’t answered we console ourselves with the knowledge that what we see dimly will one day be revealed. We ask ourselves, “Who are we to know the mind of God? After all is not His timing perfect?”
I can not presume to know the mind of God. It is beyond my comprehension. What I do know is that He waits for us with open arms to lovingly comfort us through the fear and pain. Like a soothing balm he binds our wounds and in His presence we find peace. He will not take our burden away, but He will carry it, for His yoke is easy and His burden is light.
His love is deep enough to carry all of us regardless of our labels. He looks at us through eyes of grace and sees perfection. God is not a Democrat or a Republican. He is simply love.
